My first recipe from my mom's kitchen is a simple but delicious moong dal (lentil) recipe. Moong dal is rich in protein, easy to make, and delectable. So let us prepare this simple dish together through this ageless recipe.

- Yellow moong dal (split green gram): 1 and 1/4 cups
- Bottle gourd: Cut into 1 and a 1/2 inch cubes; about 1 cup
- Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
- Whole red chilli: 1
- Green chilli: 1 split into two halves
- Whole jeera: 1 tsp
- Sugar: 1 tsp
- Salt: 2 taste
- Water: 3 cups
- Oil: 2 tbsp
Getting it done
- Fry the dal in a heated pan without oil until it starts to turn light brown in color.
- Wash the fried dal and place it in the pressure cooker along with water, turmeric powder, salt, and the pieces of bottle gourd
- Turn up the flame to the highest setting
- After the first whistle, simmer the heat, and maintain it for 2-3 minutes
- Turn the heat off
- Let the pressure cooker cool down of its own accord
- Heat a pan (could be a regular wok or a non-stick pan)
- Heat oil in the pan
- Add jeera and whole red chilli
- Once they begin to splutter, add the mixture into the already boiled dal in the pressure cooker
- Add the green chilli and the sugar
- Bring the mixture to a boil
- Adjust the level of water and the quantity of salt as per your personal taste (Tip: The dal tastes better if it is not too watery
- Turn the heat off, and serve with white rice
